Fake Bank Manager Scams 9 Billion VND In Crypto Scheme
Lam Dong: Arrest of Man Impersonating Bank Official In Multi-Billion Fraud
On August 17, 2025, the Lam Dong Provincial Police announced that they had prosecuted and detained Tran Quoc Huy (born 1991, residing in Cau Ong Lanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) for investigation on charges of “Fraud and asset appropriation” under Clause 4, Article 174 of the Penal Code.
Sophisticated Trick: Pretending To Be A “Bank Department Manager” To Borrow Money
Huy was acquainted with Ms. D.T.D.N (born 1991, originally from Bac Binh District, Binh Thuan Province, currently living in Lam Dong).
To gain her trust, Huy introduced himself as a department manager at a major bank in Ho Chi Minh City.
From May 2021 to March 2023, Huy repeatedly borrowed money under different pretexts such as: bank settlement (loan rollover), seafood trading, profitable investments
The total amount he borrowed from Ms. N. exceeded 9 billion VND.
The “Investment” Was Actually Poured Into Crypto
Instead of using the money as promised, Huy transferred all borrowed funds into other bank accounts to purchase USDT and trade cryptocurrencies on online exchanges.
The result: heavy losses of the entire amount.
Up to now, Huy has only repaid just over 1 billion VND to Ms. N.
Investigators confirmed that Huy had deliberately fabricated information in order to misappropriate assets.
Prosecution – Detention For Investigation
The Investigation Police Agency of Lam Dong Province issued decisions to: prosecute the case and the suspect, detain Tran Quoc Huy for investigation.
These procedural decisions were approved by the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Procuracy.
