Indonesia Considers Adding Bitcoin To National Reserves
Thanh Tú•8/6/2025
Indonesia is considering adding Bitcoin to its national reserves following a meeting between the Vice President’s Office and Bitcoin Indonesia. The discussion is seen as a significant step in the country’s digital asset strategy, with proposals such as mining Bitcoin for reserves and using BTC as a hedge against inflation.
During the presentation, Bitcoin Indonesia outlined key macroeconomic trends, highlighting a shift in global reserve strategies and citing examples of countries like El Salvador, Bhutan, the United States, Kazakhstan, and Pakistan ramping up their Bitcoin holdings.
Currently, Indonesia’s national reserves mainly consist of gold, US dollars, and government bonds. Introducing Bitcoin would expand the portfolio into digital assets. Sources suggest that officials are considering a cautious approach, starting with limited holdings or pilot mining programs to avoid disrupting the existing reserve structure.
