Coinbase Tests New Crypto Wallet with Social Network Features

Justin Nguyễn7/14/2025

Crypto wallets are gradually moving beyond the simple function of asset storage to become comprehensive gateways to the Web3 world, where tokens are for more than just trading. In this race, Coinbase appears to be preparing for a major leap that could reshape the entire user experience. According to the latest information on July 14, the giant is in the process of internally testing a brand-new version of its wallet.

This news becomes even more noteworthy as Jesse Pollak, co-founder of Base (Coinbase's Layer 2 network), previously teased on the X platform that a major announcement would be made on July 16. The community is speculating that this announcement is very likely related to the official launch of this groundbreaking wallet version.

1. The Vision of a "Web3 Super App"

The new Coinbase wallet is said to have a "greater mission." It is no longer just a financial tool but is envisioned as an integrated platform where social discovery and the creator economy converge. Coinbase's ambition is to turn this wallet into an on-chain blockchain content distribution platform, an effective promotion channel for developers, and a new "social square."

To realize this vision, the new wallet interface has been completely redesigned, divided into main sections including Home, Social, Trade, Chat, and Balance. Notably, the main dashboard features advanced functionalities like an AI Agent chat and a Mini App collection, reminiscent of the successful model of Asian super apps.

2. Farcaster: The Core Component for Social Experience

The biggest and most groundbreaking change in the new wallet is believed to be its deep integration with Farcaster, a decentralized social media protocol that has been receiving significant attention. This integration is described as being similar to WeChat's "Moments" section, as it aggregates Farcaster's entire feed, videos, and notifications directly inside the Coinbase wallet.

This move is extremely strategic. It transforms the wallet from a pure DeFi financial tool into a social hub, where users can both manage assets and interact with the community without switching between multiple applications. This could not only dramatically boost Farcaster's user base but also create a strong "moat," helping Coinbase retain users within its ecosystem.

If officially launched, this new version of the Coinbase wallet could set a new standard for the entire industry, reshaping the competition and promoting the development of a more comprehensive generation of social crypto applications.
